The first thing I thought when I saw that was "Oh, great! I can move the sliders of certain people almost all the way to the left, so I only see their highest-ranked submissions!" But I haven't found a way to do that.
3 things I've been thinking about recently re jaanix:
1. Not enough content. If only we could convince submitters to Digg and Reddit to submit to jaanix at the same time! It's only a little more work, after all.
2. People aren't making use of the "Note" field when they do submit. It's a great place to put a hook or description of the linked piece.
3. People aren't using the "Image" field very well, putting the logo of the blog linked to or random icons from the page. If there isn't a good image to use in the actual piece, go and find one off the web that is appropriate! It takes, like, ten seconds, and makes for a superior browsing experience.

I agree with you on all points except the first. I do not think that it is a lack of content that is holding jaanix back, there is plenty of content, it is a weak community. I think jaanix would be stronger and better if it was a place where we could hold and participate in discussions. As it stands now, most posts hardly generate a discussion. It would be a much more engaging experience if we talked.

I bet if it was just a little more crowded in here, people would talk more. Right now it's kind of like being on the subway.

Well, how do you determine crowded? I would use some ratio of unique visitors/day to new posts above the fold for those user/day. Essentially, it would be people/content. We have the content, we just don't have enough people.

Thanks, now you can adjust the volume on people and topics without following them. Just go to their page and the top slider will be it.
